XXVII IFMS Congress held in Spain

The Spanish national organisation of mountain soldiers "Asociación Española de Soldados veteranos de Montaña" hosted the XXVII IFMS Congress in the city of Tremp between 25 and 29 September 2012. Along with the nine full-member states (Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the USA), the congress was also attended by Montenegro, which obtained observer status during the congress.

The congress, held in a working and an amicable atmosphere, provided an occasion to reaffirm the member states’ commitments on fostering the common values of mountain soldiers. The discussions also included the presentation of the annual report by the Secretary General, Brigadier General Bojan Pograjc, who was, due to his commitments as KFOR Deputy Commander, deputised by Colonel Boštjan Blaznik. Furthermore, the representatives of the national organisations presented their accomplished work and prepared some initiatives for future activities of this large international organisation.

The organisation-related common thread running through this congress was the intensified cooperation of the national organisations, as well as the IFMS, with active mountain units in individual countries. The leading topic of this congress was the view ahead on the future activities of the national organisations. Since first mandate of Brigadier General Pograjc as IFMS Secretary General heading this organisation came to an end, the meetings of the Executive Committee and the General Assembly, its main working bodies, were dedicated to the election and confirmation of the future Secretary General.

In accordance with the provisions of the IFMS statute and following the proposal of the Slovenian Organisation of Mountain Soldiers, the delegates unanimously re-elected Brigadier General Bojan Pograjc IFMS Secretary General for the next three years.

Hereby attached is the address of Brigadier General Pograjc on the occasion of his re-election.
