Partizanske smucine 2013 and Visit of Montenegrin Mountain Soldiers

On Saturday 26 January, the Cerkno ski resort hosted the traditional memorial skiing contest, Partizanske smučine. The contest included the IFMS category which comprised mountain soldiers, among them the members of the Slovenian Organization of Mountain Soldiers (ZVGS), as well as members of the Montenegrin mountain soldier club Kapetan who joined this contest for the first time. This year’s skiing event was regarded, also for the first time, as the ZVGS championship for its members, and included female as well as male categories. Due to the excellently organised contest, the amazing winter weather and in particular because of the cheerful and friendly atmosphere. The competition was excellently organised, the winter weather was amazing, and especially since the atmosphere was cheerful and friendly.

The Montenegrin mountain soldiers participating in this skiing event were in fact on their first visit to Slovenia. The delegation was lead by Colonel Željko Žegarac, the Commandant of the Training Centre of the Montenegrin armed forces. During their visit to the Boštjan Kekec Barracks in Bohinjska Bela on 25 January, they were briefed about the ZVGS and the history of the Partizanske smučine, as well as the Centre of Excellence for Mountain Warfare and the 132nd Mountain Battalion. Later, they visited the company ELAN, the biathlon sports centre on the Pokljuka Plateau and the Rudolf Badjur Barracks. The visit was beneficial for both sides in terms of exchanging experience and in the planning of future cooperation.
